The GSLFIA and the FAA hosted the 10th Annual Aviation Awards Banquet on Saturday, January 25th from 6-9:30PM at the Maryland Heights Centre, honoring those aviation professionals who have gone “above and beyond”, demonstrating the true Spirit of St. Louis in the previous year.
The Awards Banquet featured a delicious catered dinner by Gina Keeven of Choices Catering. Guests enjoyed an elegant dinner and entertainment by our Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Mike Young.
At the 10th Annual Aviation Awards Banquet, we honored one of the most respected and beloved members of the St. Louis Aviation Community. The FAA presented the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award to Mr. Fred Harms, honoring his 50 years as an aviator. Fred also retired last year after nearly 30 years serving the community as an FAA Inspector.
The GSLFIA presented awards to outstanding flight instructors with the Rick Albrecht New CFI of the Year Award, the St. Louis CFI of the Year Award and special recognition was given to an individual who has dedicated their career to aviation with the James G. Byrnes Aviation Excellence Award. See below for a listing of this year’s award recipients.
2014 GSLFIA Award Recipients
Cecilia is a Flight Instructor at KCPS and loves helping others earn their wings. She is in the process of applying for a Air National Guard pilot slot and is currently in training to earn her glider rating. She may then continue to work towards becoming a Glider CFI!
Each year the GSLFIA recognizes a new flight instructor (less than five years as a CFI) who in that time has consistently demonstrated professionalism, focus on safety, participation in public aviation education, ability to adapt to students learning styles, and support of the local aviation community. The selected CFI is an aviation professional who will influence their peers to obtain and maintain the same professional standards.
Nick is the Chief Instructor at St. Charles Flying Service, Inc. a Pt. 141 Flight School in the St. Louis Area. Nick has been active in the St. Louis area for many years, has taught countless students and has earned the respect and admiration of the aviation community.
Each year the GSLFIA recognizes a flight instructor who has in that time has consistently demonstrated professionalism, focus on safety, participation in public aviation education, ability to adapt to students learning styles, and support of the local aviation community. The selected CFI is an aviation professional who will influence their peers to obtain and maintain the same professional standards. The St. Louis Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year will be supported and encouraged to apply for the FAA National Aviation Awards Program for the following year.
Mr. Reed has been a fixture in the St. Louis Aviation Community for many years, as a Flight Instructor, Designated Pilot Examiner, Flight School Owner, as well as an Airline Pilot and Vice President of Trans States Holdings. Dan is one of the most respected members of our community.
Jim Byrnes was an icon of St. Louis Aviation. Every year the GSLFIA selects an individual who has dedicated their life to promoting the advancement of aviation in this region.
