When you work in a jail, you have to trust your fellow officers with your life because you are outnumbered by violent inmates who will strike out in the blink of an eye if they have the opportunity. I am always concerned about making it home each night because if the inmate is high or has access to a weapon, they could cause me serious harm before I have the chance to defend myself. We put a huge effort in each day to limit the weapons or drugs getting into the jail.
Our entire team of corrections officers understand that the less drugs in the jail, the less chances an inmate will lose control and go after an inmate. We also understand that many visitors are ordered to come to the jails with weapons and drugs, despite the risk of serving jail time themselves. We have a huge police presence at the visitor center, and we are always working hard to search each person thoroughly so nothing gets in the jail.
Even with that extra effort, we noticed the violence was continuing, something was definitely wrong. On a hunch, we took to our inmate call system that was installed by Securus Technologies, looking for any leads to the issue. The LBS software was key in helping us to discover chatter about weapons we would have never been able to discover simply listening to inmates talk to those on the outside over the phone.
To my surprise, we discovered one of the inmates was ordering people to come to the jail with various weapons, but they were all instructed to see a certain officer when they came to the visitor center. This officer was on the take, and thanks to Securus Technologies, this corrupt staff member that put us all at risk was removed from the line of duty and our jail is that much safer.
